Show Notes

Mas Vacas!  More cows for us on our 2021 summer tour this year.  But beef this time, because it’s what’s for dinner (no offense to the wonderful Milking Devon peeps).

Since Sam Elliot’s voice and a bushy mustache, spurs and boots should now be in the forefront of your mind after that last sentence, it seems to be a great time to announce our trip to Texas.  We’re on a long-overdue trip to investigate the historically-correct Texas Longhorn, and to meet the people of the CTLR who raise these perfectly adapted animals.

We start with Lonnie Rodriguez, from Alpine, Texas.  He is a man who not only has lived much of the life immortalized in the Hollywood western, but has actually been IN Hollywood westerns, and has trained actors to pull off the riding part convincingly.  Those stunt riders who ride like they were born in the saddle?  This is one of those guys.  Without the Hollywood attitude.  And he cooks a mean breakfast burrito, to top it off.

You’ll be hearing from Rick and Lonnie again as they start a new project in telling the story of how the Vaqueros helped to shape this continent.  Until then, we hope you enjoy meeting a man who is the real deal in a Hollywood western adventure.  Script not included.
