It’s chick season, so we’re starting off with what you need to start off with before you begin. In other words: Infrastructure. Doesn’t sound glorious, but it is, especially when you factor in the Nest-O-Matic.
We’re bringing you a conversation with Joe Putnam of Premiere 1 Supplies, recorded at the Linn County Expo in Lebanon, Oregon, home of the 2019 Mother Earth News Fair. Joe was kind enough to talk to us about how you, too, can put together a containment system for your feathered friends, and all without an electrical engineering degree. Plug and play, baby. Or plug and contain, or plug and repel, whichever way you look at it (a little electricity humor, there).
Joe also talked a little bit about the Nest-O-Matic (we bought two of them for our home flock, who were developing bad egg eating habits), the supply table (Elara the nerd was excited), and watering systems (always a necessity). Since Premiere 1 also sells all kinds of other non-chicken equipment, Joe and Elara joined up for a quick conversation with Bill from Shasta Ranch, where both of them got to discuss ear tags and sheep chairs, fencing and FAMACHA, and - of course - compare shepherd’s crooks.
